When we were little, we all wanted to have a superhero. They perform amazing feats to protect those around them – and look great in spandex while doing it!

Fortunately, there are things we can all do to become heroes in real life. How to buy life insurance to protect the people and things we love. (No magic bracelets or web slings required – just a few clicks.)

But what if you were actually a legit superhero? Some of these over-the-top people lead pretty dangerous lives – can they get life insurance? We analyzed five popular superhero movies to find out just how dangerous their careers are. Find out below how much life insurance costs if you become a superpower.

Superhero Life Insurance

Our project analyzed several movies to find the level of danger for each superhero. We identified four risk factors for each character: risk factors, actual physical injury, exposure to harmful materials and firearms. For each risk factor, proportional scores were assigned to the different individual factors. For example, in the physical injury category, an injury resulting from a fist fight is given a lower score than a serious injury such as a stabbing. To measure this impact, the Vantis Life team watched all the films and looked at each injury scenario, then assigned scores to give the five an overall risk score.

To calculate the cost of insurance for each superpower, we first need a common base rate. We assumed that the average annual cost of life insurance is $478 – a $500,000 policy for a 20-year term for a 40-year-old male. We then applied a baseline risk score of five (5) to the average person. We did the following to get the total cost of our insurance.

(Superhero Risk Score/Average Human Risk Score) x Total Regular Policy Coverage = Total Insured Cost of Superhero Insurance

To get a better idea of how job risk can affect your annual insurance costs, we looked at the annual insurance costs for a “high risk” civil work, in this case roofing. To determine the policy amount paid out each year, we divide the annual limit value by the total policy amount and then multiply that amount by each hero’s policy value. We did the following calculation to find our total annual cost.

Advisor Confidentiality Report

(Annual Limit Insurance Cost/Total Policy) x Total Excess Policy) x (Excess Risk Rate/Risk Limit Estimate) = Annual Excess Cost

Please note that these are not typical insurance cost calculations, but quotes created to reflect the unique risk of superheroes.
