Approximately 2.7 million Medicare beneficiaries are enrolled in an Aetna Medicare Advantage (MA) plan, which may include additional benefits such as prescription drug, vision, dental, hearing and health insurance.
By 2021, Aetna offers Medicare Advantage Individual Prescription Drug (MAPD) plans in 46 states and Washington. Aetna added 115 new counties across the country, enabling more than 1.9 million beneficiaries to participate in Aetna plans. In total, Aetna will offer MAPD plans in 1,793 countries in 2021, serving 54.7 million Medicare beneficiaries.

To make plans more affordable, Aetna has expanded its $0 premium plan options. Aetna estimates that 81% of Medicare beneficiaries in the U.S. are now eligible for an Aetna Medicare Advantage plan with $0 monthly premiums.
For people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid benefits, Aetna has expanded its Dual Enrollment Special Needs Plan (DSNP) coverage in select counties in nine new states – bringing Aetna’s total DSNP coverage to 604 in 23 states counties. New markets for DSNP include California, Connecticut, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey and New York.
New for 2021, Aetna will offer the Aetna Medicare Eagle MA plan in 27 states. These MA-only plans are designed for veterans to supplement their VA health insurance. With a monthly premium of $0, the plan includes SilverSneakers® dental, vision, fitness programs with a $0 copay or PCP and low lab fees. Most of these plans also include hearing, over-the-counter supplements, and nutritional benefits to improve overall health.
Aetna’s Standalone Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) serves 5.6 million members. In 2021, Aetna Medicare will offer three separate PDPs. At an average monthly premium of $7.15, the new plan, SilverScript SmartRx (PDP), will be the lowest in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. SilverScript Choice (PDP) will still be available in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and will be below the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) benchmark prices in 49 states and the District of Columbia. SilverScript Plus (PDP), the plan’s most stable prescription drug coverage, will continue to be available in 49 states and the District of Columbia. All three plans include a $0 Tier 1 copay at preferred retail pharmacies.

Aetna 2021 Medicare Plans Focus On Total Health And Making Care More Affordable And Convenient

Even after the public health emergency ends, Aetna Medicare will continue to support members in 2021 with a $0 COVID-19 testing commitment. The company will also waive PCP cost-sharing and expand access to virtual mental health services while the COVID-19 public health emergency is in effect.
